GDL - Collection

Data Collection may include any digital format, such as CADD, GIS, GPS, and Relational Databases as well as conversion from historical hardcopy maps or plans. We have created and offer new and exciting data capture and information storage methods. Because we specialize in technology, we are able to take the pain and expense out of data gathering for our clients, creating focused, coherent, usable project databases at considerable savings.

Existing Data sources that we regularly draw from for our clients:

  USGS
US Census Bureau
US Dept. of Transportation
National Forest Service
Bureau of Land Management

County Assessors
County Public Works
Community Planning Depts.
City Planning Agencies

Private Data Suppliers
Private Photogrammetric Surveyors
Private Land Surveyors

Existing Data and File Types that we regularly use or supply to our clients:

  Arc/Info Coverage
ArcView Shapefile
ASCII
CADD, DWG, DGN, DXF
Digital Line Graph
TIGER
Graphic Formats CGM, WMF, JPG, TIFF

Image Formats TIF/TFW, GeoTIFF, BIL, BIP
Encapsulated Postscript
Digital Elevation Model (DEM)
Trimble (.ssf, .cor)
MS Access (.dbf)

In addition to traditional GIS data collection we have created new collection methods:

Differential Sub-meter Global Positioning Systems: Submeter systems to capture design and planning concepts. Laptop submeter system to design in the field.

QuickTime VR for GIS: Using Apple's QuickTime VR system we can capture a complete time and date stamped record of the environment at any location.

Public Participation: We have created programs and scripts that allow us and/or our clients to collect and geo-code public comments from kiosk type stations at public or agency meetings.

Digital Photo Logs: We have created a system to take comprehensive digital photo logs of any project. Each photo is stored with its complete location and geometry and is retrievable using GIS.
